Stamford

I have to go to Stamford next month and am wondering what the best route from the west coast is? Should I fly into NYC and take the train or is there a better option?

I was born and grew up in Stamford, CT.

There are few local airports, but, coming from the West Coast, you should fly to NYC. There is limousine service available to Stamford from the airports. It would probably be more convenient that going into NYC and then trying to take a train from there.

Your hotel should be able to provide you with the information. Drive time from the airports to Stamford is 1 hour or so depending on traffic. Newark takes longer because it is farther away.

Now, I haven't lived in Stamford for over 30 years and have no immediate family still residing there, so please do not ask me about hotels or restaurants. I don't know. The only reasons to return are for high school reunions (Stamford High).

The closest is White Plains Airport in Westchester County, which is serviced by several major airlines. If you're flying United, for example, you can go to Chicago and change to a plane for Westchester.
Of course, the advantage of flying into Laguardia (which is the closest major airport to Stamford) is that you can fly nonstop from the West Coast.

Actually there are no nonstop flights frrm the west coast into LaGuardia. Nonstops from the west either go into JFK or Newark. If nonstop is your primary concern, then I'd choose JFK, since it is closer to Stamford than Newark. Otherwise Westchester County Airport is the best option.

Another Stamford native here who hasn't been back to close to 15 years....fly to JFK as suggested.

If cost doesn't matter, then fly nonstop to JFK. If cost is a consideration (and the airfare is the same), then it'll be much cheaper and faster to get to Stamford from Westchester.

We live in Stamford and when we fly to the west coast we fly United non-stop from JFK and then used a shared van with door-to-door service to get home: PrimeTime shuttle 1-800-377-8745. If you are staying at the Marriott, the Connecticut limousine 203-783-6803, is a less expensive option but not door-to-door except to the Marriott.

Thanks all, I'm getting lucky and my meeting has been moved to NYC so I'm not going to have to commute in after all!

To LSKahn: Just wondering - if you haven't been there in over 30 years why you would presume to offer up any response here?
