The Tradewinds on St.Pete Beach sounds like the perfect place for you. It's really beautiful and fun.

The Bon-Aire Resort Motel, 4350 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. (727) 360-5596.

It's just down the street from the Tradewinds hotel.

The Bon-Aire is a well maintained two-story motel. It has kitchens, it's on the beach, and it has two pools. No hot tub. It has a great beach bar, Sandbar Bill's.

Even if you choose another place to stay, you might want to stop in at Sandbar Bill's.

The Days Inn on Gulf Blvd had rooms with kitchens and a good pool. It's right on the beach and the the Tiki bar (which was also on the beach) was great.

Just stayed at Tradewinds - it was a dump for the money we had to pay (it was spring break time). I'd only stay there if it was pretty cheap.

I also stayed at the Tradewinds over spring break and was very disappointed. The place was crawling with people. The deluxe one bedroom suite was tired and very small. The grounds are not as spacious as the brochure indicates. Definately not a four star property as advertised.

Check out Island's End in Pass-A-Grille - www.islandsend.com.- a few minutes south of St. Pete Beach, and the nicest beach in the entire area. This place is very nice, next to the beach and well run. We checked it out several times and will be staying there this summer. Or you can send them an e-mail at: [email protected]. Rec. by Froomer, AAA and Travel Holiday mag.

I stayed at the Tradewinds Sirata this month. I got it through priceline for $60.00 so I was happy enough but I would be very upset if I paid what they would have charged...

Now, X, you *know* that's not the nicest beach in the entire area! For beach alone, CWB wins, hands down. Hoof it from there to Caladesi Island, providing you're in "relatively good shape". ;>

My mother has stayed at the Arvilla Resort Motel (http://www.arvilla.com/) on Treasure Island many times and likes it a lot. It's a small family owned motel on the beach. Some (possibly all) rooms have kitchenettes. There is a pool and is located on Gulf Blvd., the main road along the coast in that area. I visited the hotel and it was clean and comfortable, but not fancy.

For smaller hotels, check out The Alden and also El Sirata. Both have been remodeled and look quite nice from the exterior. (No guarantee on the interior!) Just a suggestion.
