St. Marys, GA - HGTV dream house

So, what's the town of St. Marys, Georgia like? I guess I should know a little about the place before I win my dream house.

There was an article in our paper that most of the winners who won the dream house have had to sell it because they couldn't afford to pay the $450,000 plus taxes on the place.

Don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a paper mill in St. Mary's, GA. So.......I would say, quite aromatic.

$450,000 in taxes? Yikes! I'm sure 45,000 Fodorites would each chip in $10 to help me pay the taxman!

Paper mill? Hmmm... maybe I could print my own $450k!

I'd take a note out on the house to pay the taxes rather that get screwed by Capitol gains taxes. Yikes.

It's actually a very nice, old South kinda place. Spanish moss draped in the trees. The St. Mary's River slowly winding it's way to the ocean. Very cute, but very small, downtown. Problem is: What on earth would you do there?

Maybe I'll just use it as a vacation home. Or maybe I'll find a job that let's me work from home. Or maybe I'll just sell the place and retire early!

Do you like sailors? There's a submarine base there and it's loaded with men in white. The smell of the paper plant is just awful when you're downwind, but I suppose you could get used to it, what with living in your mansion and all -- with your sailor boys catering to your every whim.

Mint julep, puh-lease!
