LOL - my son graduated from WashU last month. For future reference, I'll post our choice and experience: Monarch, just off Big Bend a mile south of I64/US40. Pricey but worth it. Not sure how to describe it - "upscale Continental/American"?

We had a family group of 16, which had been expanded from 10 at the last minute. They were able to seat us at a table of 12 and an adjacent table of 4 in the most formal dining room, which worked out fine for our group (with a rotation of people for dessert) Service was perfect - attentive, patient (we had 3 elderly grandparents in the group), and protective - we had the back of the room all evening. The menu has something for everyone - vegetarian, meat, fish (don't remember if there was anything vegan), with lots of interesting favors and choices. Very nice wine list and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended as a more sophisticated (and upscale) venue than some of those suggested so far. There is at least one private room available.
At least as of May 2007, free valet parking.

My older son graduated from Wash U in 2006 and loved every minute he spent there. My younger son is starting there in the fall as a sophomore transfer. I love St. Louis.

MaureenB & annesherrod: Jimmy's on the Park is wonderful! We went out to visit my daughter and she mentioned it. That jogged my memory about what you both said when we were looking for a restaurant for her graduation dinner. The food was amazing and very inventive. My daughter, the vegetarian, was thrilled with her choice! You both were right on!

I'm glad Jimmy's worked out for you. Congratulations to your graduate!
We had two graduates this spring-- one high school and one college.

Musictub, isn't that the truth! Now one is gainfully employed, but planning on applying to Med School. The other is starting another very expensive Jesuit college. Education is money well-spent, we think.

We think so too, but we told the kids that they were on their own after college. Both chose to get a masters. My son took out a loan for his and our daughter has an assistantship with free tuition,a stipend, and a commitment to work 20 hrs./wk. for the dept. head. It paid off for my son. He got a great electrical engineering job in Austin. Hope my daughter gets a good result from her extra education too. We're very proud of both of them! By the way, University of Miami in Florida has a great medical school.
