Southwest airlines fare sale history?
Does anyone know if there is a site out there that has a history of when Southwest has run all its fare sales in the past? Just wondering if there is a trend with them? I need to book airfare for July but their current sale runs only thru June 7.

Usually most school are out after/around June 7, which starts about a 10 week span of the heaviest vacation time of the year. This is peak travel and I wouldn't think you will be finding any real bargains on any airline at that time. Even if you knew the history of when you would also need to know where. SW, often heavily discounts to just certain destinations.

Southwest seems to have an airfare sale very often, or just about all the time.
Sometimes they're good, and sometimes they're really great. Sometimes they're cheap in one direction, and expensive in the other. It's all a product of seat supply and customer demand.
You might want to check airfares on all the other airlines @ http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ before you look at Southwest airfares. That will give you a baseline of relativity to make good decisions from.

It is the opinions of the guys over at Flyertalk that know all things Southwest that the sales are dwindling and the prices are not great like they used to be.
I closely follow SW flights and prices as we fly monthly with them. The sales have really slacked off in frequency of late and even then, the prices are higher and include less of the deals they were know for in the past.
They are devaluing their points at the end of March, so things might change a bit then, but I fear they will change for the worse.

And, if you see a price you can live with, book it. You can always rebook if the prices goes down and get a credit for a future flight [which can only be used by the original person named in the ticket].
Are you using points or buying the tickets?

Debit,
How is that devalueing points going to work? Right now I have 162,000 points and a companion pass thru the end of 2014. I have my trips planned for this year, so don't plan on using any of the points until 2015(doubtful I will have companion pass next year).

It will take more points to get "free" flights, spiro. It will bring the cash value to about 1.3 cents pp down from 1.7. I believe you will also earn less points per flight too, the points still being based on fare paid and type of ticket ( wanna get away, business select etc).
I haven't paid for a flight on 2 years, having been on same situation with a huge cache of points and companion pass.
How did you"earn" your cp? You may be able to get one in 2015 if you get SW chase credit cards iF they have the 50,000 point bonus again towards the end of year.
I am far from expert on this, just learn from flyer talk boards.

I have a SW CC, then applied for another one for either my business or personal(can't remember). So, I got the 50K points. I spend about 5-7k per month on my cc. I kinda play games with CC companies. Canceling them about every year and then reapplying. Not sure, if this hurts my credit score or not.
We don't really have any payments on anything other than monthly credit card(no house payment or car payments(unless we lease). I just got a new credit card that comes with $400 in credit towards any airline(after spending $3000).
Really, the best credit card out there is the GM credit card. 5% with no annual fee. I have the old one and the new one. The old one there is a limit of $500 per year you can earn. But, you can spend the entire amount(up to $3500) when you buy a car. The new one is no limit per year, but then there is only a certain amount per each vehicle that you can spend(between $1000-$1500 in most cases). Of course, this really ties you down as we almost always have a GM car.
But, I really dislike paying a CC fee each year, so this is a big positive about the GM card.

I'm booking multiple tickets with points. DebitNM you mentioned one of the reasons why I'm trying to wait it out for a better price...I'd rather the points stay with me if possible. I've been watching the past couple weeks and the prices do seem to moving around midweek a lot. I'm not going to wait much longer though.

This is advice you should follow. Southwest has been operating on an inverse Dutch Auction type model where prices just go up over time and the initial low fares sell out quickly (Dutch Auction = start at the high price and go lower and first bidder wins).
