South Beach -Loews or Savoy?

Hi-
Which resort would you stay at? We narrowed it down to Loews or The Savoy -both look great and are around the same price. We are going June 30-July 2. Also, any help on what to wear would be great! Do the men only wear long pants to the clubs, dinner, etc... We are from Orlando so shorts are the norm here.

Thanks-
Gingerbelle

I can't vouch for the Savoy, but the Loews is wonderful! We were there two summers ago. The lobby and lounges are very beautiful and spacious. And the Pool!! To die for! It's very cleverly landscaped with a view of the ocean behind. The entire place is a class act.

The Loews is centrally-located to more nightclubs that the Savoy-- which is in the up-and-coming SoFi section of South Beach. It's closer to Nikki's, which is a great club. The Savoy is more of a luxury boutique hotel than the Loews, which has 800 rooms (although 100 are in an old Deco-era tower, the St. Moritz). I would choose the Savoy myself, for a cozier, more historic and more personal experience. But then again, when I'm in Miami Beach, I stay exclusively at another high-rated boutique hotel, the Cardozo. The Loews would probably be closer to what you're used to in Orlando, but the Savoy would be more decandent.

Nightclubs in South Beach are much more hung-up on image, so dress to impress. Men should wear long pants, and some clubs look down on jeans. Women should wear fairly tight little dresses, tasteful jewelry, no mall hair. If you're concerned, sit down with the concierge at the hotel you choose and get his/her recommendations.

By the way, the concierge should be able to get you restaurant reservations and VIP passes or guest list slots for the clubs, so don't be afraid to use this resource. Have fun-- I myself will be in South Beach next Thursday!!!!

Thanks for your help. We decided on the Savoy -$149/nt + breakfast. We thought the boutique style of hotel would fit us better. Now all I need to do is pack!

Hey you two! Please let me know how your vacations go!!

I am leaving for South Beach in a little over 2 weeks and I have a reservation for the Clinton Hotel on Washington and 8th (But still debating on the Savoy and Sagamore)

If anyone can check these out or offer any info, let me know->

Oh, and by the way, Gingerbelle, I saw the Savoy for $99 a night through Travelzoo if you book by July 2nd. Maybe you can check that out if it gets you a cheaper rate! ~Janna from NYC

Hey Janna-
Thanks for letting me know about the $99 rate!! I was able to cancel my original and re-book at the lower price. I'll let you know how the Savoy is when I get back.

Oh and to answer the men's clothing question, to my knowledge, shorts are out of the question at most of the clubs in south beach, but if you're going to a bar, you should be ok.
