snow near Colorado Springs?

How far and where, from Colorado Springs, do we need to go to show the grandkids snow and let them try sledding??

Depends on the time of year and even that's unpredictible. We've had snow as late as July, but we've also had a complete lack of snow in the dead of winter, so it's hard to say. The higher you go, the better your chances, so I'd suggest you head for the hills - go up Highway 24 heading west. You might encounter snow in the Woodland Park area, which is about a 45 minute drive west of CS, but then again, it all depends on the weather gods.

Thanks. I've heard of Woodland Park. And we will be in Colorado Springs the week before Christmas.

Woodland Park's weather does not vary significantly from Colorado. It's higher in altitude so the snow may last a little longer but they don't keep snow on the ground unless it's a particularly harsh winter.

Today is the first day of November and it was 61 degrees at my house just outside of Colorado Springs.

I recommend Breckenridge - about a 3 hour drive. There is a great park with a fantastic sledding hill. I believe you take Adams St. off of the mainstreet. You'll go left if you're coming from W-470 or right if took Hwy. 24 from the Springs. You'll go about 3 blocks and the road will "T". Go right and you'll dead-end at the park.

Does anyone know if there is sledding at Loveland Basin or near Idaho Springs.

December isn't generally a big snow month in Colorado Springs but, if you get lucky, you'll be able to find some sledding around town. Just ask around.
