I noticed one comment about taking a food pack (small soft side cooler) is okay in addition to your 2 carry-ons. Is that correct? I have been on flights lately that they are VERY strict that you only have 2 carry-ons and others that it does not seem to matter. We are going on a long flight to Europe - flying into Frankfurt then on to Rome. If I can pack some food for us it would be great. Our itinerary says "no Meals," yet we have talked to others saying that they felt like they were being fed every hour.

I have never been on any transatlantic flight that didn't have food and usually lots of it. What airline and where are you flying from?

We had meals on the few flights to Europe that I took.
Flights to Europe, Asia etc are quite long. If you bring a sandwich I would eat it in the first 2-3 hours as it can be warm on the plane and there's no way to keep it chilled. Many people bring pbj or granola as protein. I am allergic. The one thing I found was the tuna in a foil vacuumpacked pouch (didn't need a can opener or knife.)

I've never taken a flight to Europe that didn't have a meal.
For early flights with long layers I've taken quiche or an italian sandwich with artichoke hearts, red peppers, basil and cheese, if you do a search for a "brick sandwich" you'll get the idea. (leave out the salami I've never used the brick.
