Ski trip to Breckenridge: Which area to look for condos?

My recollection was that 4 oclock run ran behind (north of) a line of condos along 4 O'clock road. (I remember skiing "in" to the back side of Pine Ridge condos years ago). Snowflake lift is at the corner of Kings Crown and 4 O'clock. So you could pretty much ski in the back of a condo (for example Tyra?) and walk out the front to Snowflake.

There is a branch off of 4 o'clock that swings towards Snowflake lift. I guessing that there are a couple of properties in that area that would match your recollection. Might be close to giving a ski in/out property. Anything condo above the midpoint or maybe upper third of 4 o'clock could take advantage of that branch off 4 o'clock. But still an awkward arrangement.

rncheryl, I am curious as to what you ended up choosing here?
fmpden, you seem to know both the area of Snowmass and Breck well. I am overwhelmed looking at both lodging maps, and we are trying to decide between the two destinations. Ideally our family of 5 (3 smallish children) would prefer ski in/ski out but could adapt to just being close to a transportation center and other spots of interest. Don't need a lot of fancy amenities, just convenience. Can you steer me in the right direction? All kids will do ski school as a refresher for starters.

It comes from having just skied at Breckenridge in 63 well before Peaks 7,8,9,10. In those day you took the bus up the hill to the ski base from town. You could always take the bus back but they hacked a little road, trail? back to town called 4 o'clock run for obvious reasons. And we have lived in Denver since 80.
Snowmass and Breck are not a totally equal comparison. Snowmass, without question, is my favorite mountain. It is part of the Aspen complex and carries a similar price tag. Harder to get to which means less crowded slopes. You can fly into Aspen from Denver, or two hour drive from Eagle/Vail airport or four hours from Denver. It is an easier ski in/out since a high percentage of the condo developments are located along the main slope. About one minute in and out.
Breck is an actual, old mining town, with much more lodging. Many of the early condo developments were strung along the 4 oclock run. Convenient for end of day or early morning but not convenient to just duck in and out for a few minutes. The specific condo will tell you what kind of ski in and out they have. To truly ski out you need access to Snowflake chair. Otherwise ski to the road and take a bus to peak 9. Or ski over to the parking lot and take gondola to peak 7 or 8(the original base). Breck just add 25% for more terrain with peak 6.
Breckenridge is two hours from either Eagle/Vail or DIA airports.
Without more information and 3 small kids I probably would opt for Breckenridge.

I like the convenience of the airport situation in Aspen, but it seems like Breck just makes things a little easier on the booking end. (I am able to navigate things a little better to book.) I just booked us a 2BR at Village at Breckenridge, which appears to be convenient to most things and close enough to the slopes. Thanks for the tips and maybe we will see you on the slopes!

Surprised to see this thread again.
We chose to use Bitter's suggestion of Summit. Chose:

Each of the guys can have their own room, and ski in/out to Snowflake seems to meet everyone's needs.
We visited Peter Glenn and spent an arm and leg on ski clothing. Sure hope they enjoy!

Village at Breckenridge is an older property but it is about as close to Breck as you can get on the south end. Very convenient location. Cannot ski in or out but easy to walk. That is the location of the 12 pack chair - loads twelve at a time. It gets people off the base in a hurry.

Looks close to ski school too, which is where the kids will be, off an on. We don't have to have ski in/out if we have an easy walk. Not so concerned about the nicest digs as long as we have space we need and plenty of heat, so we are good with older property. I think we are set!

Forgot to mention: Son's sister in law and family have stayed in this building, and highly recommended the location. True, not the most modern condo, but who cares? Not a whole lot of cooking going on with 3 men, right?

I made last minute arrangements for a ski in ski out condo three weeks ago and we spent 6 nights last week in unit 109 at Skiwatch condos on Breckenridge's ski slopes. It's right off Ski Hill Rd. just past the Peak 8 base. A true ski in, ski out complex. Garagew/two car slots per unit, elevator, two hot tubs where you watch skiers come down slope and close by you. We liked location to town - easy drive or one can walk to bus drop off/pick up at base of Peak 8. I thought I got the Skiwatch name on this post but do not see it as I reread above notes. We got to enjoy the intern'l. snow sculpture contest with Breckenridge winning 1st., Germany 2nd & Wisc. getting 3rd. Sculpture viewing for a couple weeks every winter. Breckenridge has a great vibe - all age grps. walking to and from shops, eating establishments every night.

We are at Village of Breckenridge now and it is great! We are a family of 5 with youngish kids, and we are with extended family across the street at Der Steinmark (? maybe that is name?) with 4 adults and a 17 year old son in a loft condo. Plenty of room in both places. Village condo is amazing location. We can walk to Main Street shopping and restaurants --have not moved car since we got here except to grocery shop first night. We can see the chair lift from our window, so the walk to get there is minimal, and no problem for our children to carry their skis the short distance on/off the slopes. The condo has housekeeping daily and laundry right outside our door (yes!). With travel restrictions on baggage and carry ons and traveling with 5 people to a cold weather place with ski gear, laundry facilities on a longer trip have become a travel necessity! The Maggie is a great apres ski meet up location for us, and is literally steps from our condo. This has been a great recommendation for our family. Thanks all!
