Silver Dollar City, Branson - Worth all that $$??
Good grief is that place expensive! Is it really that great to justify dropping close to $200 for tickets for 5 for just one day there? If it's the experience of a lifetime and totally worth it, then we'll do it, but if it's just like any other roller coaster park (the one near us costs much less) then it's probably not worth it. Our kids are 11, 8 & 6.
Thanks for any opinions!

It's not really a roller coaster park. They have a lot of stage shows and vendor/craft booths. $40/head isn't all that much for any kind of entertainment park any more.
Which isn't to say I'm a huge fan of Branson, but to each their own.
Are you intending to visit the park during one of their special event festivals?
We were there during the Xmas season and did enjoy the shows we saw. They had a nice parade and light display.

Silver Dollar City was first built as a recreation of a 19th century Ozark community, where you can watch blacksmiths, wheelwrights, weavers, etc. at work. Over the years they have added rides and stage shows, so it's much more than a theme park. They also have special events during the year that feature artists and musicians, all of very high quality. In the past if you went in after 3pm (I think it is), you got free entry the next day. Check out the website to see if that's still possible, because then you could stay for the evening musical show in the amphitheater, which you would probably be too tired to do if you did it all in one day. Be sure to pick up the daily schedule as you enter so you can cover all the music shows that you want to see (there are six or seven venues).
Our local theme park, Magic Springs, is $40 for a day pass and it's just rides, except on Saturdays when they have free concerts, so the price at SDC is a bargain in comparison. I certainly recommend going to SDC, as I think it is definitely worth the money.

THank you for reminding me that SDC is so much more than just rides. I knew that years ago, but have kind of forgotten what it was all about. I suppose we'll take the plunge. Thank you for the evening show recommendations. We just may do the shows the night before when we arrive in Branson and then come back the next day for the bulk of it. That is all we plan on doing in Branson, off to Beaver Lake, Arkansas after SDC.
Appreciate your time and opinions!

Don't forget to search online and local publications for ticket coupons/discounts. I'm looking at the SDC website and don't see any mention of the 2nd day free when arriving after 3pm. You should probably call the park's guest services to see if they still offer that discount before being surprised at the gate.

WE went and paid and enjoyed it immensely. It is a beautiful amusement park with a lot of character and nice wooded surroundings. It was worth the time and money. Thanks for your help!
