Shuttle to Carmel from SJC or SFO?

My family will be in Carmel in a couple weeks (so excited!). We're renting a car but my inlaws will be arriving separately, and I don't think they will need their own car. Are there any reasonably priced options to get to Carmel (they're staying at Ocean & Monteverde) from either San Jose or San Francisco airports? I'm about to make the flight reservations, but I want to figure out which is easier for getting to Carmel.

Thanks!

I don't know about shuttles, but Monterey airport is only 10 min. from Carmel.

San Jose Airport is way closer to Carmel than SF. But even at that, you're talking about more than an hrs. drive. You could go get your inlaws and make a day of sightseeing in SJ and then coming south to Santa Cruz or returning to Monterey.

You could google/yahoo for "Carmel to SFO shuttle" for various companies that will do both SFO and SJC.

Just call them and ask for their rates for a trip from airport to house for two people.

Otherwise, take agoldie12's suggestion and have them fly into San Jose, then come and pick them up. Should be about 1 1/2 hour one way in non-peak traffic hours.

No shuttles.

Fly into San Jose and then the people who arrive first will have to rent the car and pick up the people who arrive last.

They could fly into Monterey, but it will not be a direct flight and will be way more expensive.

The other option is a one-way car rental from the airport, hoping that there is not a large drop-off fee.

We can do a one-way rental from Santa Cruz to SFO for $44., so perhaps if they did a one-way rental from SJC to the Monterey airport at a reasonable cost you could pick them up there.

good luck

The Monterey Air Bus makes shuttle pick-ups in both SFO and SJC. The drop off point is downtown Monterey which is about a ten minute drive from downtown Carmel. They have a web site with schedules - www.montereyairbus.com.

JRandolph - we have shuttles. The Airbus serves both SFO and SJC. It's a great option to driving yourself. You can make reservations via their website:

I hope the weather is as beautiful as it is now. We're having some amazing days! I can't keep my youngest off of the beach.

TTess and SAB....great news about the shuttles...the last time I checked, which as admittedly several years ago, I couldn't find one.

And, yes, the weather has been gorgeous I live across the Bay from you.

Thanks for the information

Hi SAB - Unfortunately I spoke too soon about the weather. The fog didn't burn off yesterday and we woke up to gray skies, today. Can't complain because it's paradise no matter what, right? I'm sure glad you were here to experience the wonderful sun, though!

That's OK JTRandolph - if you didn't learn something new everyday, life would be dull. Cheers!

I was glad the weather was as prefect as it was as it will be my last trip down until the end of summer-- I avoid your lovely town during the summer. I'm spoiled--I've become accustom to being there when it is less crowded.
