Shout out to fellow Calif. Fodorites

Hope you're all doing ok in this storm. I've never felt my entire house buffeted by wind before. Almost as scary as an earthquake!

Stay safe and dry all.

Yes, I thought so too, the glass will break in the windows in downtown SF. And the wind! Awful!

It's quiet now, but for how long?

Oh, it's been delightful. Our power just came back on after being off all day - the 5 am shower in the dark is not the way I like to start the day! We were fortunate, though, to only lose part of a fence.

The hospital where I work instituted a state of emergency which meant we could be required to stay overtime. Luckily, most of the evening shift was able to make it in so we were able to leave. We had to close a few rooms for flooding and patients had a hard time getting in for scheduled appointments and being discharged home.

I know our weather is so mild compared to much of the country that I feel a bit wimpish complaining, but I will be glad when these storms are over!

Rain, rain go away!

Does anyone know how many inches of rain the Bay Area got? We had to let water out of our swimming pool because it got too high! Luckily we never lost power. It's quiet now and I just stuck my head out of the door and I actually saw stars!

I was out taking public transit today in the south bay. LOL, Light Rail and two buses on the way home. Even my wind resistant Sharper Image umbrella bit the dust today! Happy to be warm and cozy at home.

On the average, the Bay area around 2 inches of rain today. Santa Rosa and parts north got about 4 inches, but Ben Lomand in the Santa Cruz Mtns got just above 9 inches. We were lucky and didn't lose power, but all around us we heard transformers blowing and many signals out (East Bay).

Those winds were unbelievable and the rain was more like toreential monsoon rain!

Glad everyone weathered this storm!

TrvlMaven: that's incredible - 9 inches!!!

Does anyone have any idea if the next one will be a smaller storm or a larger one?

I read this morning that the rest of the storms will be smaller. In San Jose (South) we lost power for about 5 hours, was impressed it came back on so fast (thank you PGE crews!) The wind was amazing! Making my way home Friday night was difficult due to flooded streets, downed trees and traffic lights being out. There were accidents at almost every intersection because drivers were just blowing through intersections without working traffic signals.

The good news is that we need the rain and the snow!

Here is a review of yesterday's storm from the SF Chroncle.

I didn't lose power in my neighborhood but most of the areas in my city did evedently. It was one scary storm with terrible winds in my area.

Here are some things that I recall from this morning's news.

High tide at the coast around 8 am with waves in the 25' to 35' range expected. Leave the surfboard at home!

Still around 100,000 homes without power in the Bay Area.

In Palo Alto the sun is shining through the clouds. More rain is expected by this afternoon. They say the rain and wind will not be as intense as it was yesterday.

Kirkwood Resort at South Lake Tahoe reporting around 6 feet of new snow in the last 24 hours.

Thanks for all the updates! Feel much better that today's storm will be a lesser storm.

LI: Thanks for the SFChron link. Quite an array of amazing stories.

However, just have to point out that the article started out with "National Weather Service forecaster Will Pi..."

LOL! (will pee?)

Well...the heavens just opened up! Strong wind gusts, torrential and horizontal downpours, thunder and lightning. It has been raining hard and steady for the last two hours.

Iamq, it's coming down again here too (South San Jose/ Los Gatos). My cats freaked out with the thunder.
