Shenandoah National park
Family of 3 (child aged 9) visiting USA for first time in July 2016 and during our DC trip planning to stay for 2 nights in Shenandoah national park.
We are on a budget and looking for comfy and clean accommodation with great views, natural beauty below USD150/ night
We are more interested in natural beauty and will be doing 1-2 light hiking trails
Our questions are
1. Big meadows lodge or Skyland resort. What are the Pros & cons for both
2. Would we need a/c in evening and nights in the month of July. An ac/ room costs about USD25- more
3. Should we take a Bed & Breakfast package
4. Should i visit Peaks of Otter
Thank you for input which surely would help us in a wonderful trip

1) Big Meadows has more activities and amenities nearby, so I tend to recommend staying there.
2) Hard to say about AC. July can get hot, but it's impossible to know if it will get "I need AC" hot. How well do you handle heat in the evening?
3) Unless you all eat huge breakfasts, I generally find that I can eat a good breakfast for less money than the cost of adding a set cost for that meal. For example, an orange juice that costs $1 if you buy it in a store, and pour it yourself, will cost $2 or more if you pay someone else to pour it into your glass.
4) If you're visiting Shenandoah, there's no need to go to the Peak of Otter -- and I absolutely LOVED staying there!!

I will be having a car, so travelling back and forth to either Skyland or Big meadows wont be a problem, which is more scenic to stay?
Can someone else also advise on the need of Air con in the month of July

Even though you are going to be at a somewhat higher elevation the fact remains that you are going to have plenty of humidity and that may be what is going to drive the need for some sort of air conditioning.
If I had a choice I would definitely want A/C so you can keep the windows closed and any bugs out, especially at night.

Note that although spring so far has been cool we are now heading into a warm spell - it will be 88 degrees here today and I think cool is gone for the year.
I would definitely get AC, even if you need it only for some nights.
