like a snow cone only the ice is shaved so it is not in chips the way a snow cone is.
In Hawaii they serve them in about 30 different flavors some times with ice cream, coconut, azuki bean (you will have to try the bean on your own).
All I can say is YUM YUM and YUM.

I plan on tasting the "guri guri," at the Tasaka family stand in Kahului, Maui when I get there. I just saw a TV report about it on the web www.khnl.com, it's apparently the top spot for locals.

Another vote for JoJo's in Waimea on Kauai. It's so small and dumpy-looking you could drive right by, except for the line waiting to get in.
Two days later, we tried the shaved ice at Beezer's in Kaapa, but it wasn't as good. However, the ice cream concoctions at Beezer's looked good.
