Some friends are in Maine right now. Your report makes it sound beautiful and relaxing. Thank you.

Leely, I'm working on your photo solution but first, my two maine poems. Not that the poems or the photos are good but we had so much fun I'm inspired to share this stuff. Or try, anyway.

First the poems, then the photos.

Cape Split

Gray sky,
Almost evening.
Sharp spires of pine,
Dark green,
Stretching towards the sun
A pale orb,
Burning in the fog.
Below, soft green moss falls away to the rocks
Gray and black,
Covered in kelp, low tide
Gray water, sounding.
Waves a distant thunder
Close, a soft whisper.

Cold

It’s cold
Here in August,
Here in Maine,
Here on the porch
Watching the fog
Feeling the wind,
Hearing the waves
Falling on the rocks below.

Now the photos. All 13.

Beautiful photos--what a lovely part of the country. I only wish you had posted a pic of a lobster roll. Seriously.

Nice poems too. Were you inspired by the reading you attended?

Great photos and trip report. I had to get the US map out to find out where Maine is.

On a side note how do you/or your kids decide which university they want to go too when there are literally thousands to choose from in the US. Here in NZ there are 6!!!!

I think the children will always prefer the school that's most expensive and hardest to get to. But it does take some searching. The poems came before the reading. Had I waited until after the reading they might have been better.
