Sedona for our anniversary.
We going to Sedona for the first time for our anniversary. After some research I have decided on L'Auberge. We're looking for a relaxing, romantic place where we can also enjoy the hot tub and a great massage. Is this the place for us? I have also considered Sedona Rouge Hotel and the Amara Resort. Thanks!

I've never stayed at L'Auberge, but I've had a wonderful dinner at their French restaurant; nice classic interior and great comfort food. It was a gourmet oasis for us so you may want to consider at least a lunch there. I've never been to the Enchantment but have a friend who works there for fun (early high tech retirement) and is super proud of the hotel. It sounds like it's the best place to stay in Sedona.

Thank you so much for recommending the Enchantment, looks like a beautiful resort. However, I'm not really looking for the large resort type setting for this trip, and it seems so detached from town. We would like to find a great place close to town so we can walk around the shops and enjoy the local resteraunts, and still be able to relax, enjoy a massage and a nice view of the creek or the red rocks. Do you know of any place like this, or do you still recommend the Enchantment. Thank you!

My husband and I stayed several days at L'Auberge several years ago. The rooms are large and very well appointed. Make sure and ask for a view room. We did have dinner one night at their restaurant and we were not impressed, as there was some type of t.v. filming going on at the time, so it was not quiet and romantic like we had hoped. To be fair I have not seen the Enchantment Resort so I cannot compare the two.
Happy Anniversary.

I'd go with Amara. The accomodations at L'Auberge are nice but they are for the most part nestled down by the creek and do not have the views that you can get at Amara. And the rates are much higher than Amara. But note that not every rm. at Amara has red rock views either- some face the pool, so be careful what you book, and call a few days vefore and again the day before to assure your room assignment w/a view.
I don't think Amara has full resort spa yet (I believe they are building one though), but they have a treatment room and offer massages and other treatments in that room. L'Auberge also does not have a full spa, just a couple of treatment rooms.

I don't remember seeing a hot tub when we stayed at L'Auberge. I just looked at the resort map on their website, and I don't see one there either. If there is one up by the pool, it is very inconveniently located. You might want to look further into this if this is important to you.
The creekside cottages at L'Auberge are wonderful and very romantic. I believe they even have in-room massage services, if that interests you. I haven't stayed at any other property in Sedona, so I cannot compare, but I do think the overall atmosphere at L'Auberge is peaceful and relaxing.
Have a nice anniversary!

I called the L'Auberge today to inquire about thier spa, I was told they just opened a new facility on the property in September. I was transferred to the spa, the lady I spoke to was very pleasant and she e-mailed me a nice menu of the treatments they offer. I think we will give this one a try. Thank you again for all your input! I'll post a report when we return.

I don't know when your anniversary is, but we visited Sedona in Feb. and stayed at the Enchantment Resort. It is one of our favorite and most romantic places to stay. It is nestled in Boynton Canyon and is surrounded by the canyon walls. It's like staying in a national park--how did they ever acquire that property? We stayed in one of the rooms with a Murphy bed--it has a living room with fireplace, sitting area, separate kitchen---this room has a huge patio with grill. Feb. is also the offseason, making the resort much more affordable.
The drive out to the resort is beautiful. We did it one evening at sunset and had to stop the car for pictures. There are wonderful hikes in the area and there is also a spa, which I didn't use. My husband did use the pool.
We walked around L'Auberge and I think it might have appealed to me more in the summer. It's on a wooded hillside by a creek but the hillside was just full of bare trees when we were there. The outdoor dining area looked lovely but was closed in the winter. I peaked in the cabins and they looked lovely. We also preferred the Southwest decor of the Enchantment. What's with the whole French theme in Sedona?
If you have never been to Sedona, the downtown area is a disappointment. It is not like Santa Fe. There is not much there.
We did not go to Amara but I have read good reviews.
As hikers, we would love to return someday. Lots of great hikes.
