Seafood; check in or carry on.

Flying from Boston to Eugene Or. tomorrow and bringing fresh fish out. It's a judgment call, but what would you do. I'm worried about it getting lost or stolen.

I'm assuming it is a lot of fish, and iced down in a cooler. I would go ahead and check it. I checked in a case of wine from SF to Newark, and it came out fine.

Which direction are you taking the fish? I know the salmon runs up the Columbia are low, but didn't think it was this drastic. Thanks for helping out!

I was thinking the same thing, but Doc lives in Boston. Bring fresh fish back from Oregon? I would still check it. The dry ice thingy is an excellent idea.

It will be packed in a styrofoam cooler with ice packs and placed in a cardboard box. I just don't feel like carrying it around if there is a delay or something. I also will have my 4yo with me, so I will have all the cargo thats goes along with that.

FedEx is an excellent idea. Won't worry about lost luggage, hands free to play with child, and no fish smell in the cabin. I'm sure there is a FedEx or UPS store somewhere near you in Boston.

Another vote for FedEx or UPS next day air. I get shellfish shipped to me in CA from RI several times a year with no problems. Definitely a more expensive option, though, especially if it is a huge amount.
