Savannah hotels
We are looking at two hotel in the midtown area to host family reunion: Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn. Does anyone have any feedback on them? We are also looking into various activities to try while in town and would like to do the African American Heritage tour. Any good?

I would STRONGLY recommend staying in the Historic district rather than midtown. Both hotels you mention are fine though. The Holiday Inn is an older property and the Hampton Inn has exterior entrances (some people don't like). Two other midtown options are the Courtyard by Marriott and SpringHill Suites.

Staying in the Historic district came up, but the family vetoed because of cost. I know we will spend more time on River street, but I have to go with the rest of the family. I thought we could have dinner at Lady & Sons one night. Is the food really good?

I like it. Some folks on this board haven't. If southern buffet doesn't appeal to you, order from the menu. GREAT options there. (I like both).
I don't like River Street very much, but some people do.
Read the Savannah threads on this board for lots of great ideas.

If you like Southern/country cooking, definitely eat at Lady & Sons; it is excellent. Eat at The River House on River Street ... excellent Caesar Salad, seafood, Margaritas. River Street is funky, junky but with some pretty good gift shops and fun for one visit per trip. I would try to stay in the Historic District if I could!
