Any recommendations for where to stay in Savannah? I am trying to plan a weekend in late March (not St. Patty's day) or April, with my boyfriend and friends (another couple) Any B&B recommendations or big hotels like the Hyatt? Trying to decide what would be the nicest. We are looking for a nice place to stay (not budget, but not too much over the top), but also near restaurants, nightlife etc. Any ideas would be appreciated!

emm..that is one of the busiest times of the year because of the azaleas so you need to make reservations asap.

b and b would be more romantic--try ballastone or foley house first--great locations and reputationa. for hotels i'd either do the hyatt or westin. disclaimer time...my husband ran the hyatt but i've no interest in selling it--we were transferred 7 years ago. the westin is a much prettier hotel and would be my first choice except fot the fact that it is across the river and every trip to the historic district would entail taking the water taxi over and back, or getting in your own car and making the drive...and parking once there is a headache. marriott would be my 3rd choice. all 3 hotels are right on the river and have terrific views. the next tier down--days inn, fairfield inn etc, convenient but not as nice, nor are they full service if that matters.

please pardon this typing...am temporarily one armed...

Westin is very nice but water taxi can be inconvenient. It also does not run all night.

Hyatt is in need of upgrading, but very convenient. Have never stayed at the Mariott, but also good location. There is a newer Hampton Inn that is pretty nice, and right in the heart of the historic district.

Not a B&B, but a smaller hotel w/ charm is the Planters Inn, and it's located next to a good restaurant, Olde Pink House.

Go to the website for Savannah B&B's and find The City Hen, a neat B&B in an old row home in a good part of town, with private parking in back. It has only two units, one with double bed and one with a double bed and single bed. The lady who owns it is named Sally, and she will make you feel perfectly at home---and she serves a great breakfast.

We stayed there in 2003 and really enjoyed it. The place isn't plush, but clean and safe and well cared for. If you like the old colonial style homes and furniture, you'll enjoy it. There's no elevator, though, and the rooms are on what would be the third floor. Cost is about $100 per night per room. Good luck.

To be more accurate, the beds in the rooms of The City Hen are queen size, not double. Sorry for the mistake.

We've stayed at Olde Harbour Inn on Factor's Walk and thoroughly enjoyed it. They will feed you a good breakfast in the morning, and host a cocktail hour in the evening. The location is very central.

We stayed at The President's Quarters during Thanksgiving and loved it. The rooms are lovely and large, the B&B is quiet, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The best part is the breakfast--you can have it delivered to your room each morning rather than having to get up and get dressed to have breakfast. It was lovely. Their prices were not cheap but they were certainly not the highest prices in town, by any means. I can't remember the website address right now (just go to Google), but you can actually see the different rooms on the website. It's a great way to pick out the one you want. Have a great time!

I've stayed at the Westin, and it's very nice. As others said, you have to take a water taxi across the river, so you can't be in a huge hurry in case you have to wait on it for a few minutes. We stayed out late both nights and took a regular taxi back to the hotel as the water taxi had stopped running.
