Sanibel/Captiva in August-too crowded?
We are considering a wk. in August in the Sanibel/Captiva area. We visited there in late march a few yrs. ago, and loved the area except for the heavy crowds. 2-3hrs. wait to be seated at the resaurants, for example!! What will it be like in August? Please tell me not as crowded as March/April!! We really liked it there but the crowds ruined it. Thank You.

We've been twice in August and it's nothing like you describe for March/April. If anyone had told us 2-3 hr wait, we'd have left, not just the restaurant, but the island. Hot spots like Mucky Duck can still present problems, but perhaps 45-50 min at the most popular sunset hour.

We have gone to Sanibel for over 25 years, but usually in November. No crowds, no no-see-ums , low prices and great beach weather. One summer we went end of June/early July and it was very hot and muggy. Even the beach had no breeze ! Maybe you can pick a diff. time ?! It's a great place !!!!

Most people who go to Sanibel/Captiva in August rather that in the season including March, do so because they want to save money. Otherwise why would they suffer through the heat, the rains, the humidity, and the bugs of the worst month of the year there? If you go to cheap restaurants they are more likely to be crowded. If you go to the nicer, more expensive restaurants they are more likely to be half-empty. Many of the cheaper people there in August stay in and cook to save even more money.
