Sandestin resort

Hi, we are scheduled to go to Sandestin from 9/26-10/2. I called the resort and they said the beach took a hit and there was sand in the pool at our hotel. We are trying to decide if we should still go now or postpone it. Does anyone know about this resort or area? They say the restaurants are open and the hotel is fine. I just don't want it to be like a ghost town. We could always go at a later date.

Thanks!

I have family in the west side of Panama City not far from Sandestin. This area was not hit hard like Pensacola, no major buildings down, just a lot of debris and roof damage mostly. As for a ghost town, I was at the beach in St. Pete last week and it was packed, more so than usual. Maybe these are the curious, I don't know, but there are plenty of folks at the beach. The weather is beginning to cool down so I'd say go for it.

Sand in the pool? I might just like that. You won't even have to walk to the beach and won't have to worry about spilling your drink.

We went to Sandestin in March. I doubt it would be a "ghost town" but it is off season and probably won't be crowded. Hopefully a local will read your post and give you a true report of the beach condition. That's what I would be most concerned with - the beach erosion. My brother lives in Panama City and as Tandoori Girl said, they got very little damage. Go to the Red Bar in Grayton Beach for dinner for a different experience.

I would think you should be fine. I have friends that live down there and it isn't as bad as Pensacola. Go to www.cityofdestin.com/ivanupdate.html and remember these are pictures right after and they are taking pictures of the damaged areas - not what survived. If this is all the damage that Destin received - I really don't think it is that bad.

Thanks for info everyone. I think we are still going. I was assured that everything will be fine at the resort. I hope that's true!
