San Fransico to Napa
Hi Everyone,
We're going to San Fransico for a week in May, and we would like to tour the wineries in Napa for a day. What's your recommendation for doing so? We will not have a car, so do you know if we should rent one, or what would be available for us?
Thanks!
Casey

Definitely rent a car for a trip to the Wine Country. The link below has more information on the different wine regions in California.

You have at least two choices.
1- rent a car
2- contract with a limo service that drives you around.
The benefit of the first choice is that you get a lot of freedom in choosing where you go.
The benefit of the second choice is that you can really enjoy the wine tasting and not worry about driving drunk. Sometimes the wine sneaks up on you.

If there are particular wineries you want to visit, call them ahead of time. Some (like Niebaum Coppola) require reservations for tours &/or tasting.
If both of you want to taste, I strongly suggest going with a private limo if you can.

We're going to SF over Memorial Day weekend. We are renting a car for one day and going to Sonoma wineries. I've been to Napa years ago and was not too impressed. I have checked all the web sites and think Sonoma/Healdsburg areas are great places to go.

I agree with Budman. IME much better than Napa. Napa wineries are more likely to charge for tastings than Sonoma county. Check out www.wineroad.com-covers 3 or 4 appellations and almost 100 winweries. Car or limo is a must. The land, especially around the Russian River is nothing less than spectacular! Have fun!
