San Francisco's Wharf Inn
Has anyone stayed here? I did a search and could not find much on it. The price is right, free parking, great location but something must be wrong or more people would be recommending it. Any other hotels with free parking in a good location?

I was curious so looked it up. It looks fine. Are you talking about the $89 price? There are a number of motels with free parking for similar prices -- many just west of there in the Cow Hollow area, which frankly I'd like much better than being a block or two behind Fisherman's Wharf. And it sounds about right for the various motels in that immediate area. But I certainly wouldn't worry about it because of the price. Seems about right to me.

Patrick - it sounds as if you and I share similar tastes - which area of SF would you stay in for three nights as a first-timer? I enjoy a place that has space to smell fresh air and do some running. I have heard the wharf area not to be the best, but I am having trouble picking other locations that sound fresh and exciting. I will research the Cow Hollow area that you suggest. Do you know much about the North Beach area? I only see a couple of hotels there. Thanks for any insight you can give me for my August trip.

Thanks Patrick
We will have a car because we will be travelling to wine country while there so that is why I wanted free parking. Other than that, we wanted a place we could walk to Chinatown, cable cars, pier 41,43 etc, etc. What would you recommend? We are going April 26. Thanks!

I love the Cow Hollow Suites -12 beautifully furnished full sized apartments on Chestnut, with free garage parking below -- but they are $200 or more a night. Adjoining that is Cow Hollow Motor Inn, at about $89 a night, with the same free garage parking. What I like about this area is that there are an abundance of good restaurants in the neighborhood as well as trendy shopping if you are into that. And you can leave the car and take the bus -- direct route to Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, and Union Square and ending at Market Street. What more could you need? You can walk a few blocks through the Marina district to the bay and see wonderful views of the Golden Gate.
There are several other motels in the same area, several owned by the same firm, but Cow Hollow is the one I know best.

I would be content with it, but I'm curious. Their regular price is $ 89. What are you paying with priceline? I'm all for bargains, but unless you're saving something like $25 to $35 a night, I'd normally be hesitant to give up a good cancellation policy, or the idea of being stuck there if you didn't like it.

Thanks for your suggestions concerning Cow Hollow and the area Patrick. Much appreciated! Warming up down there in Naples yet? I've read where you should be getting back to normal today/soon. I'm stuck in the deep-freeze-tundra of Michigan, but making the best of it.

There is nothing wrong with the Radisson Fisherman's Wharf at $80/night. It's a nice enough place to stay; it just doesn't have any particularly notable attributes, either. While it may be possible to get it for $89 directly from Radisson at times, that is lower than what it would be available for on many dates. (I ran some late April dates, for example, it came up at $129 for the lowest rate). Maybe you could have booked it for less with a lower bid, but you did okay.
The location is superb for Fisherman's Wharf and while that area is frequently panned for being "too touristy", there is a reason that it's popular with visitors and it's really a lot of fun.
It's a short walk to the cable cars. (Hint: Don't board at the terminus, where you will see long lines of people waiting and buskers working the crowd. In order to leave some capacity, they never quite fill the cars up at the terminus. Just walk up a stop or two hop on the first one that comes by.)

They ARE two different hotels, but the comments on the Radisson relate to this entry:

Unfortunatly, I bid on Priceline and got the Radisson Fishermans Wharf. It does not have a lot of rave reviews. I will make the most of it. At least the location is good.
