Going to San Francisco March 5. Considering location, quality of hotel and rooms, etc. would you recommend Park Hyatt or Four Seasons? What are the pros and cons, esp. getting around from each. Thanks.

Assuming you're coming as a tourist without a car, I think I'd choose the Four Seasons. It's on Market Street, so you can just pop out the front door and jump on a streetcar or BART - which will connect you to Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, The Castro, the Haight, etc.

Four Seasons is also close to Yerba Buena Center, SFMOMA, Moscone Convention Ctr - if you are here for business conference. Also close to Union Square.

Park Hyatt is closer to Chinatown and North Beach, the TranAmerica Pyramid and the Embarcadero Shopping Center (state of the art '70s modern).

Both are pretty close to cable cars for added transportation ease.

I don't know the Four Seasons, but I love the Park Hyatt. Ask for a room with a view.

The Four Seasons holds a coveted 2003 Mobil five-star rating - the Park Hyatt is not really in the same league as far as quality, but the location is great (as is the Four Seasons').

I've stayed at both.
The PH is a good hotel, interesting style, mediocre location. Rates there are usually competitive. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10.

The FS is SF's best hotel by a solid margin at this point. Its decor, however is not traditional (which is a bit atypical for FS). Room rates are the highest in town. Location is excellent. Fitness center is the best in town.

If it's in your budget to stay at the FS, this one's a no brainer.

In that price range, I would stay at the Ritz-Carlton instead.

I stayed at the Park Hyatt in May of this year over a long weekend. The location was fine to me, since I think it's very easy to get around in SF. We actually took the cable car to get us where we needed to be. The Embarcadero Mall area is right across the street with a movie theatre and some restaurants. We just had a hard time finding a place nearby to eat breakfast on a weekend. Still, we only paid $75 through Priceline. The room was very nice in a masculine, business-like kind of way. And I loved the lobby. Service was good as well.

I haven't stayed at the Four Seasons but I'm sure it's nicer, albeit much pricier.

The Four Seasons is quite a bit nicer than the Ritz Carlton, partly because the Ritz is an older hotel, partly because the Four Seasons has a fresher style.
The Ritz's location is not as convenient either.
