San Francisco to Cannon Beach

Hello! My parents are driving from San Francisco to Cannon Beach and are looking for ideas on things to see and places to stay. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

How many days will they take for the trip and are they doing the coast the whole way?
There is a publication- The Oregon Coast Mile by Mile. There is an online version and paper version you can order.

Need more information -- When is the trip? How many days? What sorts of things interest them? Many if not most places will require 2 night minimums on weekends -- and sometimes 3 nights over holiday weekends.

I prefer Seaside to Cannon Beach but they can easily do both. My preferred route would be to take I-5 north from I-80 with an overnight stop in Medford. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will also be in that area this summer. Take I-5 north to the south end of Portland and take US 26 west to get to US 101 between Seaside and Cannon Beach. The route back to San Francisco is all US 101 with a stop in Newport to see the Oregon Coast Aquarium and a stop in Gold Beach for a jet boat ride on the Rogue River. After getting back into California they can visit the "Trees of Mystery" to see some great Coast Redwoods.
In Cannon Beach one of the most photographed spots in Oregon is Haystack Rock.
