San Francisco MUNI news

Starting September 1 the single ride will be $1.50, seniors and students $.50. The monthly passes are the same. I don't know if the price of 3-days or weekly will be different.

Welcome to the city

...then the Board of Stuporvisors vote 8-3 against bringing the USS Iowa to SF as a museum/tourist attraction.
Even current Senator and former SF Mayor, Di Fi said ''very petty decision.''

''This isn't the San Francisco that I've known and loved and grew up in and was born in.''

I guess they don't need the revenue in SF when all they have to do is raise a tax or two on "the rich".

Welcome to The City.

Hi Faina, I heard a Muni fare increase was coming soon. Oh yes, increase the fee when it is probably those that can least afford it will have to pay.

Kal, I agree with you 100%. Not the SF that I knew also. I didn't know that you were born and raised in SF. Learn something knew every day!

"those who can least afford it" have monthly passes, they don't go up. We prey on unsuspecting tourists

I'm still a Pittsburgher who has been going to SF since '62.

Oh, well Kal so you weren't born in SF...OK, got it!!

Faina, I am glad the monthly passes will remain the same. You did say that in your first post didn't you. My reading comprehension obviously needs some improving, LOL.

I know nothing at all about marketing but am skilled in other areas.

I cannot understand how the Stupes figure that revenue-->ridership will increase by increasing BART fares. My guess is that if fares were lowered, the number of additional riders would increase to more than cover the decrease in fares. What's wrong with this picture?

Hi Betsy, in this case it is not the BART fares that are increasing, it is the Muni fares. But other than that I agree with you!

Oops, for some reason my brain processed BART instead of Muni, but as you say, the argument is the same.

Well it's either an increase in fares or a decrease in services, and as someone who takes Muni every day to work, I'm not in favor of decreased services. BTW I know it is much easier to make fun of the Board, but massive budget cuts coming from the Governator and the State Assembly are as much to blame as the Board of Supervisors for the increase--actually the Board only ratified what was requested by Muni itself.

SAB, unfortunately it's both, I don't remember when, maybe it's done already, they planned to decrease buses by 6%.

That is what I read, increase in fares AND decrease in service. Of course where I live public transportation is even worse.

I didn't know the cable car ride goes up too. Today you have to pay $5 for a single ride. Yikes!

Oh, by the way, there are reduced price passes for low income $35 a month.

There are significant changes in service and routes from September 24.

Line 2 will run on California instead of Euclid between Presidio and Arguello.

Line 4 runs only during peak time.

Line 10 is no more! Bummer!

Changes and reductions on other lines, don't remember them all.

I feel already there are less buses during peak time on 2/3/4 and 1 lines

I really think as a country we need to focus more on making public transportation cheaper and more convinient. I know that cities and counties have to meet their budgets and are faced with tough choices. I just wish that public transportation was a higher priority than it is.

Hi J_Correa, I sure agree with you. And where I live public transportation is almost nil, especially for so many that work outside of our city.
