San Francisco/24 Hours

My husband and I will be flying into SFO on Friday morning, and will be cruising out the following day. We plan to shuttle to our "airport" hotel and drop off our luggage, and would like to take public transportation, if possible, to get a taste of the city, using the airport as our hub. We are also considering a Grayline tour.
We enjoy hiking, widow shopping, and seafood. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Or...is there some type of tour we could take directly from the airport Friday morning, and keep our luggage with us while touring San Francisco? Thanks again.

By all means go to your hotel first and get rid of your luggage. The Grey Line tours will show you a good bit of the City to start with, and then you can decide where/what you want to see afterwards. I'd suggest a walk through Chinatown and a cable-car ride out to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. You could finish up in the Union Square area for some excellent window-shopping, with dinner at Farallon, a very fine seafood restaurant.

Thanks, Underhill. And I am guessing that a taxi would be the best way to get around?

To get around, I would take BART into SF and then take buses and lightrail around the city.

Once in San Francisco there are the cable cars, trolleys, and buses. And, of course, those taxis--with drivers who almost always know how to get where you want to go.

Have a great time in one of my favorite cities.
