San Fran location OK?

I am considering hotels in two locations. Are they safe and convenient?
Near Bush and Powell (Grant Hotel) Near Sutter and Larken (Hotel Carlton)

Would appreciate any comments

I don't know anything about the Grant Hotel itself, but I would say Bush and Powell is a better location than Sutter and Larkin. Sutter and Larkin is in the Tenderloin, but not in the worst part, by any means. Bush and Powell is closer to Union Square, shopping, and more bus lines for getting around the city.

Hi tburkegolf, I am not familar with the Grant Hotel either but I agree with SFNative the location is just fine. I Googled the Grant Hotel and it looks good..and from the prices I saw very reasonable. Have a fun time in SF!!

Ditto to SFNative's comment. Sutter and Larkin is o.k. in the daytime, but I would not relish walking back to my hotel late at night there. Bush and Powell is much better.

I live across Carlton, and let me tell you, I am an older woman, and never doubt for a moment to walk from theaters in the Union square area. Perfectly safe.

I don't recommend this location as it's not really in the tourist area, kinda boring residential, no good restaurants around.

The hotel itself may be good - it was renovated less then a year ago.

It's OK if you're getting a really good deal.

Bush and Powell is on a steep hill if this is a problem for your knees.
