San Diego Restaurants

I am looking for a great San Diego restaurant for a 25th anniversary. We are staying near the convention center, but would consider Coronado, etc. Thinking about George's at the Cove (or Ocean Terrace), Star of the Sea, Le Fountainbleau, Prince of Wales, etc. Recommendations please?

George's is often wonderful, but consider Thee Bungalow (wwww.theebungalow.com) or its sister 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach for a VG less expensive meal and wine (no great views).

Mikemo - 3rd corner has been closed to all but large private parties for months now...

Cindy is this just for the anniversary couple or a party? I am in the minority of people who have been underwhelmed by George's at the Cove. I think the big draw is the water view and as soon as it's dark, the view's gone, pfft. There is one place, I think the Marine Room, that has a water view at night because it's lit.

I must tell you I've been to a number of the better restaurants and I have to agree with Mikemo's reco of Thee Bungalow. It's the best meal I've had so far in SD., but it's not really fancy, no view. It's almost a step back in time. It's in a nondescript area in a converted house surrounded by other modest homes. But the food is just plain excellent with good but not formal service and terrific wine list. If this is for a party, I think it would be ideal.

If just the couple, I think I'll let others suggest a place.

I have not eaten at the Marine Room but my daughter has and she says was wonderful- and does have great views- however it was VERY expensive -
but they did have a couple of bottles of expensive wine as well - so dont know what your budget is - but a 25th
anniversary is worth a splurge

If you really enjoy excellent food, consider AR Valentien's at the Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla. Incredibly fresh & good food, and an elegant dining room.

Alice: Thanks, have not been back since last May and Thee Bungalow has been there (different owners occasionally) since I lived in University City in the 70's.
