San Diego in December
My DH and I are going to be in San Diego for 5 days in early December. I have a reservation made for the Manchester Hyatt, but I'm a little concerned about some reports I've read on another website. The first complaint seems to be noise from trains coming through all night and sounding their horns at a nearby pedestrian crosswalk. It's funny, about half the reviews are glowing and half are really not good...and all written very recently. Any opinions? I'm very flexible as far as where we stay. DH has to be there for business after our getaway, so we were hoping these 5 nights would have a nice view and be a hotel we'd feel comfortable at. Thanks, everyone.

Manchester Grand Hyatt is gorgeous and a wonderful hotel and I have seen this posted about the trains and the only train that really goes by there is the Trolley and it's electric and they very rarely use the horn unless someone is on the tracks..
You are going to love the location and San Diego as well..
Gaslamp area has lots of great restaurants and you can take the water taxi at Seaport Village..
Make sure you get up to La Jolla and have lunch at George's at the Cove and eat on the terrace..drinks at the Hotel Del Coronado and go to Balboa Park and the SD Zoo..

Tahiti Tams is mistaken. During the night freight train do run through the downtown area. The trolly run till around midnight and won't be noisy, but the freight do blow there horn at some intersections. Ask for a room on the bayside, it will be quieter.

We recently spent 6 nights at the Omni, on the 21st floor, overlooking the convention center and the railway tracks. We could hear the trains, but it didn't bother us. In fact, we were surprised how much sound we could hear on that level. Conversations and music alike really travel. Depends on your level of sensitivity, I suppose. Not a problem for us.
I do recommend the Omni Hotel. Ask for a corner room, a premium king room, and you'll have two large walls of windows overlooking the city and the water.
