San Diego Drives

Any suggestions for a scenic drive from San Diego.. Maybe an hour or two in any direction (except not into Mexico). We've been to La Jolla, Coronado and Torrey Pines, spent a day at Sea World, walked Balboa Park, Seaport Village and the Gaslamp district....so wanted to venture out a little further.

A couple of suggestions.

Drive up to Julian, an old gold mining town in the mountains now famous for apples and apple pies! There is also a winery.

Or, drive to the observatory on Palomar Mountain.

Brillant call! We drove to Julian... the ride itself was not like anything we are used to being from NYC. And we have to fully reccommend Julian Pie Company and the best Apple Peach Crumble we have ever had. Thanks again!!

Love those Julian Pie Company pies!! Some supermarkets down here in San Diego have them sometimes and they get snapped up pretty quickly. Our fave is the apple/blackberry, but I'll have to look for the peachy one you mentin.

Take a drive up the 5 North (You get to see the coast along Encinitas, Carlsbad,Camp Pendelton and Dana Point)to San Juan Capistrano and visit the Mission. Also, along the way is San Clemente and its charming seaside faire, including "Fishermans" on the pier. Order the bucket of clams or mussels and the clam chowder. Mmmmm. (The drive is about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic).
