San Diego ??
Hi everyone!
We have never been to San Diego before and are looking for a good location to stay.We would like it to be near a trolley stop so we do not have to drive too much.
Also what not to miss in sightseeing and restaurants ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would highly recommend the Omni. My wife and I were there last weekend and it's steps from the trolley line and about a block from the Gaslamp Quarter. We were only there for a couple of days, but really enjoyed our time at the zoo, in La Jolla, and just milling around the Gaslamp area.

Great idea to stay close to a Trolley station.
The downtown area, loosely including the Gaslamp Quarter and the Embarcadero, has many hotels and masses of restaurants. All would be within walking distance, or a quick cab ride.
Old Town is also close to a Trolley stop with a few nice hotels and several restaurants. This is also a don't-miss sightseeing area.
The Trolley goes right through Mission Valley and there are lots of (usually) less expensive hotels there, a few restaurants and a very good shopping mall, Fashion Valley. Less easy to walk here, but it is possible. Interstate 8 also runs through Mission Valley, and many of the hotels are on frontage roads. Parking is less expensive than downtown.
Old Town and Mission Valley are not far from downtown, but not a walkable distance. My first choice would be downtown, but perhaps you could give us an idea of how much you want to spend on your hotel?

In the downtown area, we enjoyed the Marriott Gaslamp (the other Marriott is the waterfront, as dwoodon mentioned). This is a newer marriott (refurbished from an old Clarion hotel, I believe). The outside isn't much to look at it, but the rooms are a head above a lot of the traditional marriott's I've stayed it. This one is more modern, catering to the "W" type hotel crowd if you are into that kind of thing.
I don't know if you are into animals, but my boyfriend and I loved the San Diego zoo! It was very uncrowded when we went, and it was also November, so the weather was nice and cool. It was just fun to walk around, making jokes, and chatting (oh, and seeing the animals was neat too...meerkats were our favorite).
La Jolla is also very pretty...there is a nice place for brunch there.

We really enjoyed our stop there on the way down for L.A.
