Dinner in San Diego

We are planning a special dinner in San Diego but do not live in that area. The date is 12.20.08 and someplace with an excellent filet mignon is required. We would prefer that it not be too casual. Any suggestions are welcome.

Where are you staying? Downtown San Diego? Donavan's Steak House in San Diego and La Jolla are often in lists of top steakhouses in the US.

I love Donovan's also. My second choice would be Fleming's. They are in the same area.

We are staying at Westin in downtown San Diego but our location doesn't really matter. We would be willing to travel anywhere between La Jolla and Coronado. I was hoping for first-hand reviews from you great Fodor bloggers.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the recommendations.

Does anyone have a first-hand opinion about Mr. A's? I think it is now under a different name.

It's Bertrand at Mr A's, and sorry haven't been there myself, but friends attended a dinner party there and really loved it - most impressed with the best view in San Diego.

I actually haven't been to Donovan's although friends love it. I have been to Flemings and I don't think you could go wrong with that either.
