San Antonio River Walk

My wife and I will have a couple of days to spend in San Antonio (arrive mid-day Tuesday Sep 13 leave late afternoon on the 15th). I think we want to stay near the Downtown River Walk area and are wondering if you have any hotel recommendations in that area that are around $250 - $300 per night. Hoping to just park the car when we arrive and use our time to leisurely walk around the area eating, drinking, shopping and seeing a few of the nearby sights until we leave. Thanks for any recommendations.

Hi!

I’ve stayed at quite a number hotels by the Riverwalk over the years; I’ve been in San Antonio maybe a dozen times and I mix up the hotels I pick when there. Of the ones I’ve stayed at in your price range and time frame, the la Quinta Inn and the Emily Morgan were well-located and pleasant, although one can be well-positioned at a decent hotel for under $200 if desired. The Riverwalk area is nice in that there’s a lot to see within walking distance; the Riverwalk is charming, a place I’m always happy to return to.

Have a great trip to San Antonio. I hope you enjoy the city as much as I have!—Daniel

If you look on booking.com you can select the Riverwalk as your area and find lots of options. Do pay attention to the map, as some properties with Riverwalk in their name are not actually on/close to the Riverwalk. Hotel Contessa was originally built to be an Embassy Suites so all rooms are two room suites and it opens onto the Riverwalk (restaurant is good, too.) The Canopy is a fairly new Hilton property that gets good reviews. The Holiday Inn Riverwalk is not posh but certainly adequate and very well located. If you are a Hilton loyalist, there is a Homewood suites and a Home2Suites property on or close to the Riverwalk. Hotel Valencia is on the Riverwalk and offers a package in your price range that includes valet parking (good Argentinian restaurant here, too.)

The Pearl is on the northern extension of the Riverwalk, accessible by water taxi - great dining options there. Brasserie Mon Chou Chou is like sitting in Paris and there are other great dining options there.

I’ve stayed twice at the Omni Riverwalk and really liked it. The rooms looking onto the Riverwalk are a bit over your budget but there are several choices under $300. Great location and easy to walk to lots of the sites. Super fun place!

I stayed with a couple of girlfriends at Oge House https://www.nobleinns.com/oge.html

An easy walk to the River, lovely breakfast.

Also check this restaurant: https://www.lafritesa.com/. Small, charming, good service and excellent mussels and frites.

Yes, La Frite is a great place. And just a block or so away you can get some of the city's best Tex Mex at Rosario's. If you prefer mex-mex Mexican, head to La Fonda on Main or La Paloma on Broadway (both short cab/lyft from downtown) but avoid the tourist traps like Casa Rio on the Riverwalk.
