dncee11: Unfortunately, it's not so strange. There are many times, in almost any political jurisdiction, where the police will have arrested someone for a crime, thinking they have a soid case, and the DA will refuse to file charges pending further investigation. In some cases, it's because the DA sees a weakness in the case the police did not. In other cases, the reasons defy explanation. In all cases when that happens, the suspect must be released until a case can be developed the DA will file on.
Just this week, a DA down in Texas refused to file charges on any of the child molestors caught in a TV sting. His stated rason was that there were civilians involved in catching the molestors and that weakened the case. That has not been a problem in the many other jurisdictions where the same TV program has been involved in catching hundreds of molestors but, for this DA, it was and he's the one who gets to decide, at least initially. I'm hoping they are able to get the DA to reconsider or that they take the cases to the state Attorney General to be prosecuted.
