Restaurant in Grammercy area of NY????

Please recommend a restaurant in the Grammercy area of NYC.
Please exclude Grammercy Tavern. Been there done that.
Thanks

Verbena - 54 Irving Place. If it's warm try to sit in the garden.

I never have a nice itme at Verbena but am in the minority.

Union Square Cafe

Tabla at Madison & 25th Street

Less expensive, good atmosphere, a real bistro--Steak Frites

Try Irving on the corner of Irving and 17th I think. Have only eaten there once, but the food was great and very well priced. It is small, few tables, very quaint.

Olives is on 17th and Broadway. Great new American with fun, upbeat ambience. Sushi Samba is fun, too.

As for Union Pacific, everything was on - food, atmosphere, service...but it was pretty stuffy, imo.

Depends on the kind of experience you're looking for. Not nearly as friendly as Gramercy Tavern.

Tamarind - Indian...and Craft - New American - are also supposed to be good. Never been to either, but at Craft you can build your own menu.

check newyork.citysearch.com for decent recommendations, too.

Have fun!

Veritas! 43 E. 20th between Broadway and Park Avenue So. Expensive and unbelievable. $68 prix fixe dinner is wonderful. Also Beppe, I think it is on 22nd between Broadway and Park. You can't go wrong with either.

I like Bolo at 23 East 22nd street (between Broadway & Park Ave). Bolo is actually in the "Flat Iron" district, but very close to Gramercy Park. My colleague suggests Craft (43 E 19th street, between B'way and Park)and Shaffer City (also in the "Flat Iron District" at 5 W. 21st street right off of 5th Ave). Schaffer City is a seafood restaurant. Bolo is a Bobby Flay restaurant. According to Zagat's, Craft is an a la carte restaurant where diners design their own meal.

How about my favorite restaurant -- Les Halles? A real French bistro and butcher shop. Noisy, but the best frites in the city (IMO).

I also liked Shaffer City -- great food and good service.

Agree with Elizabeth...Verbena was not a good experience. Loved Mesa Grill and Union Square Cafe!
