Residence Inn St. Louis Galleria

Has anyone stayed at the Residence Inn St. Louis Galleria? I am having problems finding reviews on this hotel online. I'm wondering if it's a new property?

I live in the St. Louis area and I am not familiar with this hotel. I assume it is a Marriott. The Galleria is a very nice mall in the Brentwood/ Clayton area of St. Louis though, so it is probably nice. What is the address, that would help to know.
Have you checked the Marriotte website for a description of new hotels?
If you find out it is near Galleria, there is shopping galore and lots of good restaurants.

I just checked the website and it is right by Galleria. So it should be nice! The mall has wonderful stores, Cheesecake Factory and other restaurants. Across the street is a brand new shopping center with several restauants, Crate and Barrel and other shops. There are two more shopping centers a minute away with everything from Borders Books and Music, World Market, Whole Foods, Target, Trader Joes, etc.etc. Plus you are near Clayton, which is a very ritzy area of St. Louis with lots of great restaurants. You would be about 10 minutes from downtown St. Louis, where all of the sporting events stadiums, Arch and also you are a few minutes from the Zoo and the Science Center.

Thanks for the info. My husband has a review course to attend so I will keep myself busy at all those malls!

This is an okay Residence Inn. The room are okay but show some signs of age. I think it's about 12 to 15 years old. Other than that it's a typical Residence Inn.

The only bummer is that the Metrolink extension runs right by the hotel and causes some noise and dust. Once done it will be nice since the station will be right next to the hotel. This will allow easy access to downtown Clayton, Forest Park, downtown St. Louis and all the sights. It was supposed to be done later this year but a late 2006 or early 2007 completion date is more reasonable.

The Galleria is on the other side I-170 from the hotel. There is a pedestrian bridge that allows you to walk to the mall. But you still have to cross Brentwood Blvd to get to the mall. But the stoplight by the bridge has a pedestrian crossing.

Yes, tons of shopping in the area.

Well, then which hotel(s) would you recommend in this area ?
I am surprising Mr R5 with Cardinal tickets in early September. I know he would prefer to stay in Clayton and we would like to have Busch stadium access by the Metrolink.
Thanks!!

In Clayton there is a very nice Hotle called Seven Gables. It isa very quaint Inn right in the heart of great restaurants and bars.
Another smaller hotel is called The Danielle Hotel. In Clayton, nice restaurant.
There is the Ritz if you fell like spluring.
There is a Sheraton in Clayton.
In the Central West End there is fun Hotle called The Chase Park Plaza. It is near fabulous restaurnats, Forest Park, the museums.....
Let me know if you wnat more info...
have fun

Anne has got it right.

Unfortunately staying in Clayton and using Metrolink (unless you drive to a station and ride down) is not an option until 2006 or 2007.

The Chase is a very nice hotel: would be my recomendation. Clayton is only a 8 to 10 minute drive from the Central West End where the Chase is.

Thanks for the info ! MrR5 is a native
of St.Louis so I have been hearing
all about it,yet I know it has changed
since he's been back. (10 years?)

Anybody a Ladue graduate?

Of course this is a special trip for him and to see some of the last games at Busch is a really special treat!

So, if we don't want to drive to the games, we could park at a MetroLink
station and zip to the park ? We will definetly do Forest Park, the zoo for certain. I am sure we'll see a restaurant (or 2 ) on the Hill.
Anybody have an opinion on Ballabans
(sp?)

I will look at your suggested hotel(s)
I thought about downtown-I have stayed
at the Union Station hotel-but we
don't want to get caught with a fortune for parking. And I know I'll be
"suffering" the humidity, so I would like a pool.

Balaban's is excellent: one of my favorites.

If staying in Clayton and wanting to use Metrolink you should drive to the University City station and park in the lot there. It's behind the Pageant Theater. The Forest Park station parking lot is out of service until the new line is built. Just ride from there down to the game.

BTW: I have no problem parking downtown since hotels in other cities with more activity (like Chicago) will charge as much as $38/day for parking.

Paying $9 at a downtown St. Louis hotel for parking may sound steep, but really it isn't.

If you decide to stay in a downtown hotel like the one in Union Station, you might consider parking at the Casino Queen on the Il side of the river for free, and take the metro over to St Louis. It would save at leat $9 per day. I have stayed in the Union Station hotel and it VERY quiet.

Thank you for the info!
I agree that $9 isn't much when you are used to large city prices (I'm close to
San Francisco)-still, it would be nice to save it if we can.

I looked at the Chase Plaza-it is gorgeous-MrR5's grandmother lived
there at one time-I guess it was the
fashion?

lynclarke: Thanks for the Casino Queen
parking tip! Still wading through options.

I did not go to ladue but many of my friends went there. What year did he graduate from there?

Balaban's is a classic favorite!! Has been popular for 20+ years. There are some fun new bar/resaurants in Clayton too. Miso's and BARcelona.
anyway, have fun!
Oh, let me know about your husband's year of grad.
