Recommended hotel in Waikiki for one night
My family and I are arriving at midnight in Honolulu. Our rental house is available the next day, so we need a place to crash for the first night! We want a clean quiet hotel near the airport and close to car rental office.(not at the airport) Any recommendations! Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your question. You mention Waikiki and also near the airport.
The only two choices you have are airport hotels or Waikiki hotels.
Are you going to wait until the following day to pick up your van?
What time is the house in Kailua available?
Here is a thread with some airport hotel info:

For Waikiki hotels for one night, try:
www.bookit.com
For City: Oahu
Plug in the dates
When the hotel list comes up it will be by their choices. You can change it to sort by price.
Lots to do on Oahu:

Sorry, what I meant was A hotel that has a shuttle to the hotel from the airport. We'll pick up our van in the morning and drive to our house after 2:00 p.m. We haven't booked a rental car yet, but will do so in Waikiki, possibly Thrifty's. Thanks!

I think you ought to just stay at a hotel near the airport, get your van from an airport location car rental the next day.
None of the Waikiki hotels provide a free shuttle. Most of the airport hotels provide free 24 hour shuttles.
Most of the Waikiki car rental agencies do not have cars in Waikiki (some do). So to get a van like you mentioned in a different thread, you may have to take their shuttle back to the airport location to pick up the vehicle.

travelj,
I would not stay near the airport... and have heard others say the same. You will have to wait until check in for your rental house the next day, and no doubt you'll be up early if you're coming from the mainland.
We liked the Aston Waikiki Beachside... others have recommended the Aston Waikiki Beach Circle. They are next to each other in a perfect location across from Kuhio Park with terrific ocean views. Clean, small, affordable rates for a quick stay... plus right in the middle of the action of Waikiki. Enjoy the morning there before you check into your rental house... I'm assuming sometime mid-afternoon.
Happy planning.

What about taking Suze's above-mentioned airport shuttle at $8 pp, or a cab (which might work out as cheaply with all of you in it) from the airport into Waikiki. There are several major car rental firms right off Kalakaua in Waikiki--one at the corner nr Sheraton Moana Surfrider and Princess Kaiulani Hotel (Avis I think) which is a few blocks from hotels mentioned by Makai1 . Thrifty has one at Seaside Avenue off Kalakaua in Waikiki , a few blocks west (?) of Avis' location. From Waikiki, you'll get instructions to the Pali Hwy which will take you right into Kailua.(No matter how eager you are to settle in at your rental house, try to stop at the Pali Lookout for the incredible view --it's right off the Highway on your way to Kailua.)
Good luck!!!

I encourage the Waikiki 1st night because it would be perfect to be able to wake up and take an early morning stroll along the beach, pick up breakfast from the bakery, maybe even do some shopping before heading out to your house. To me that would be worth the cost and time (~1/2 hr each way) to and from the airport.
Oops, I missed the midnight part. I'm guessing you'd need a taxi. Probably the shuttle busses don't run that late?
