recommend guidebook for Boston?
We're visiting Plymouth/Boston this coming August. Can anyone recommend a good family guidebook for us? Family with tweens; we're staying in Plymouth and plan to take the train up, I believe.

I really like frommer's guidebooks. I've read many guidebooks for various cities, and think the frommer books are the best. They are written to appeal to many audiences. Most of them have separate chapters for kids' activities, and they are written to satisfy all budget categories.
Also, if you have specific questions about Boston the people on this website are extremely helpful. I am going to Boston next week, and fellow Fodorites have been very helpful.

Hi pocohontas,
Our search for a compact guide focussing on Boston only, was finally achieved with the back-pocket-friendly DK’s Eyewitness Travel Boston, complete with maps, walks, history, cut-aways and floor-plans:
Dorling-Kindersley Ltd., London, 2001 (revised 2007). Highly recommended.
And second kathymt's comment ... Fodorites were extremely helpful answering our Boston questions and helped in so many ways to make our visit an unforgettable experience.

I live in the Boston area and recently received a copy of the Fodors guide and I was impressed with the quality of the information. More info in the book than on this site. And, of course, Fodorites are very helpful.

While you are picking up the guide for Boston, consider a Streetwise map as well. These maps are laminated, small, and easy to read. They are about $8. See www.streetwisemaps.com
Have a great trip.
