Please listen to everyone that says they never made the drive again after their initial trip! You need to take into account possible delays on your return to the airport which will eliminate your last day in Key West. Check out cheap flights from Orlando, Tampa, and Miami to Key West. You'll still get great fares out of DTW to MCO, TPA, MIA and you'll have so much more time. Either way have a great time!!!

OK, Uphilli, here's another option for you. I don't know if you are flexible on your days, if so, I'd add an extra night to the trip. I live in Ft. Laud. and instead of flying ($200? Puleeez!), I decided to take Greyhound Bus Lines and let them do the driving. I'm going in mid-June and it's only $60 for the ticket. Better yet, if you need two tix, it's a 2 for 1 rate, so both of you can go for $60. You don't need a car in KW, so just take a cab to your hotel/B&B and use the shuttles or rent a scooter/bike. If you want to save about $140, that's what I'd recommend. I leave around 9:30am and get into KW around 5:00pm. I usually drive whenever we go to the Keys, so this will give ME the chance to look for a change. You'll enjoy seeing the scenery. But if you are short on time, I'd spend the extra $$$ and fly into KW.

Sorry, I have to correct my previous post. I checked Greyhound and they don't have the 2 for 1 ticket in July. I did some figuring and scheduling checks and you would only save about $100 (plus save cab fare in Ft Laud). Go ahead and pay the $440 and fly into KW. It will be worth the extra $100 to keep from having to schlep luggage all over Ft Lauderdale and wait in bus stations.

(OMG I need to get a life... now I'm planning other people's trips! LOL)
