Keys trip - option A or B?

We are going to be in Florida December 15th and we plan to arrive in Miami and then head down to the keys for a week. We have 2 options re accomodation/ location and I would be very grateful for some opinions:

A: Hawks Cay resort on Duck Key for 5 nights

OR

B: 3 nights at Key Largo Sheraton, followed by 2 nights Key West Casa Marina

thank you in advance

Since it looks like option B is the only one that allows a stay in Key West, that's the only way to go. It's a no-brainer.

You'll find that you wish it could be 2 nights in Key Largo, and 3 in Key West, but them's the breaks....

I'd always rather be in Key West but Option B sounds like more packing & unpacking than enjoying yourself. If there were a lot to do in Hawks Key, I'd just stay there for 5 nights rather than only one full day in KW.

I would take option B as I think the two locales will give you a better sense of the differences in the Keys. From Key Largo, you have snorkelling, kayaking, Everglades and similar. Key West is, well, Key West.

B. I've heard that Hawks Cay is showing it's age, especially since the last two years' hurricanes. Rooms are hit or miss. Also agree that you must stay in Key West.

In Key Largo, the Fish House is outstanding for seafood, and very casual to boot.

A day trip to Key West is more than enough for me when spending a week in Islamorada. It all depends on what you like to do.
