Recomendations for a Condo in Maui?

I have heard/seen pictures of some beautiful ones in Kauai but not so much in Maui. Looking for something cute, close to the beach, not crazy expensive, and not too far from the action. Any suggestions of where I should look?

Stayed at a great condo, right on the beach between the Aquarium and Kihei, nearer to Kihei, but can't remember the name of it. If you have a Frommer's or Fodor's you may be able to narrow it down for you.

LoriDori, there are hundreds, if not thousands of condos on Maui. I suggest you look at "Maui Revealed" and come back here for opinions about a few specific condos.

Hi LoriDori. Check out the Polo Beach Club at Makena Beach. Not sure of the price, but a great complex with small pool and beach. It's right next door to the Kea Lani. Have fun!

Yes, it's a great guide book to Maui. Well worth buying, then they give you a code to use on their web site for more detailed info about accomodation on Maui.

Barbara there are not hundreds or thousands of condos on Maui. There are approximately 100 hotels and condos on the whole island. By the way, what is the code for the Maui Revealed web site ?

LoriDori, if you want to stay at a condo on the beach in Maui and not far from the action, "The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach" fits these requirements perfectly.

Rusty, each condo building/complex has many condos, and if you take them all together, there will indeed be hundreds.

If you need the code, buy the book.

Agree with Iregeo that the Polo Beach Club condominiums are very nice, though they may not fit all your criteria. The rack rate low season 1 br ov starts at $355/night. See for instance www.drhmaui.com. Location, Makena/Wailea area, cannot be beat if you like seclusion. Many, many very nice low-rise condominiums in Wailea, an area dripping with the finest trappings of money. Great snorkeling beaches, restaurants, shopping, in immediate environs. Polo Beach is very far from the "action," if you are looking for nightlife. You might try looking in Ka'anapali. Kapalua is very beautiful, though it can be wet and is isolated and often expensive. Maui Revealed gets my vote as a first rate guidebook.

We stayed at Kahana Reef north of kaanapali. Small complex - all have ocean front decks/patios for great sunset. Small pool but near the beach. They have 'quiet hours' so if you're into big loud parties, this is not the place. Reasonable prices - we just wanted a place to crash since our days were spent sightseeing, beach hopping and exploring all over the island. have fun!

Grand Champions in Wailea is a great place. It's Wailea without the high Wailea price tag. Check out a rental at www.ownerdirect.com (posibly www.ownersdirect.com ) Some units are on the Wailea Blue golf course and have a partial ocean view. A one bedroom two bath condo( as opposed to a one bedroom lock-out unit that has only one bath) rents for $950.plus tax per week low season and $1200. plus tax per in the high season. (Dec. 15th - April 14th). The complex has two pools.

Check out the Maui El Dorado in Lahaina. The condos are set back from the ocean about 1/4 mile so it's not crazy expensive, and are located right on a golf course so it's super quiet and peaceful. We had Unit L203 while we were there and it was fantastic -- ask for it when you call.

Stay away from Kihei unless you like crowds and traffic. The vast majority of condo units on Maui are concentrated in a very small area, in Kihei.

The Southern end of Kihei has very, very good beaches-the 3 kams and Keawakapu, and is not very crowded, no more so than Ka'anapali. Kihei also has a large stock of midrange condominiums for rent and is dry almost always. Next door to Wailea, which also has a large number of higher end condos.
