Rain Rain Go away..NYC this week

Is it pouring or just scattered storms as the Weather Gods tell me? Half the reports say it's the flood and the other say partyly cloudy.?????

Leaving Socal Tuesday----do I need rain boots? or will an umbrella be good enough.

Thanks

Well it was supposed to rain all day today but the heavens didn't open up big time til about 6:30 --- Then it POURED - Who knows what tomorrow will bring -- NYC has many many indoor activities! I work on HOHO buses -- I'd skip them in the rain if I were you!

Well this afternoon/evening we've had several strong downpours. And what's anticipated for the rest of the week is weather we often get in the summer: scattered heavy thunderstorms, often in the late afternoon/evening. VERY heavy while they last - but it may be 30 minutes or an hour - or not at all in some areas. If you get these an umbrellas won't help - you'll be drenched - just get indoors until it stops.

Make sure you have a list of indoor activities (it's very sticky outdoors anyway, even when not raining).

Bring an umbrella and a light raincoat, because it is HOT, we're finally getting some summer. It has been pouring all night long and BOOOOOM there was another flash and crash.

Check www.weather.com as you are leaving to get the forcast, but figure hot, and in the afternoon showers/thunderstorms. We even had a Tornado WARNING this afternoon, so you just never know.

Have a great time anyway and just run between the raindrops or hail, whatever. lol.

The rain was so bizarre--a whiteout a 5PM because of the rain and humidity, and in the middle of it a full horizon-to-horizon rainbow appeared. Twenty minutes later, pure blue skies; twenty minutes more the rain had returned.

At weather.com, it shows 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms for most of the week.

If the rain shown is thunderstorms during this time of year as others have stated, they are the infamous "late-day thunderstorms" that don't really cause any trouble for most of the day. These thunderstorms can often wreak havoc with airport arrivals and departures in the afternoon. The good part is that afterward the humidity drops dramatically.

Thanks..just took the pants out of the clothes pile and put the summer skirt in.

Have umbrella, light raincoat, and will manage. Don't think I'll bother with rain booties--too heavy and hot.

July 27 6:28 EDT

This a. m. was warmish but sunny. This afternoon we've had TWO rainstorms... then sun.
You won't want a raincoat... it will be too hot. Just bring an umbrella and shoes that can survive puddles -

A raincoat is way too hot as well - and won;t do any good in a thunderstorm - the rain pelts down way too hard for any coat to help. You're just overheated and left wearing a soggy coat. Just be sure you have closed shoes (sandals will leave your feet wet and filthy - and will come apart if not sturdy enough) for the days it rains.

Did anyone notice the light "hail" in midtown this afternoon? Ok what the heck is the deal with the weather this summer? Oh and I SAW the funnel cloud go over yesterday, on the way to Queens, luckily it didn't touch down, but GEEZ, the midwest is moving east?
