What starrsville and GoTravel said!

Seeing it again this year, and can't wait.

I bought VIP tix - not sure what that meant, other than they were very close to the stage.

For the extra $70 per ticket, we got -
- an express line on the side of RCMH. Didn't have to wait outside in a line in the cold. Came to the side, ushered inside immediately and waited in the warm lobby while someone took the purchaser's DL and CC and retrieved out tix
- a souvenir gift bag was waiting in our seats with the program and a tub of popcorn
- a waiter appeared at our seats to take a drink order (soda or water)
- the seats were so close we felt the spray of ice chips during the ice-skating scene

Magical!

I've only seen it once, and totally enjoyed it. It isn't called a "spectacular" for nothing. The staging is amazing. When an entire orchestra appears on stage, then moves forward, disappears into the pit, ice skaters perform on ice on the stage, and then the entire orchestra reappears behind them -- it's all pretty amazing.

And although I'm not at all religious, I disagree with the comment above about the nativity sequence being "over the line". I literally sat there with tears in my eyes, it was so well done and very moving.

Well, I'm Jewish and I didn't think the Nativity scene was 'over the line'. It's a Christmas show, after all.

I was wondering, however, how I'd explain that story to my little niece who was just 5 when we saw the show. She was in kindergarten at a Jewish parochial school at the time and was just beginning to learn the Hebrew bible stories. Jesus and the Nativity story would not have been part of her knowledge yet.

Well, it turns out I needn't have been concerned. She heard "Jerusalem". She heard "baby". It all came together for her. She leaned over to her mother and said, "This must be about Moses!" Fine. We left it at that.

I am a former Rockette...

The Christmas Spectacular is just that...a spectacular. I didn't do the show here in NYC- I performed in Branson and Milwaukee.

If you get the chance to see the Xmas show at Radio City...do it at least once! The CAA shows are great, but nothing can compare to the sheer scale and beauty of seeing it at Radio City.

It's not just 'dancing girls'. Yes, the Rockettes are the 'stars' of the show, but aside from the skaters, the ensemble, Santa and Ms Claus, the animals- the stage at RCMH is unlike any other.

What makes the Rockettes so special is that you have 36 women on stage executing the exact same steps down to the smallest and minutest detail at exactly the same time -working as one unit, not individuals. It's all about precision, no one can stand out. That's the hard part...not the hundreds of eye-high kicks you do each show, several shows a day! ;O)

I haven't seen the show this year, and don't know if I will, but it's completely revamped. The new director (as of last year) is Linda Haberman. She was the director of the CAA shows, and now oversees all of the Xmas shows. The dancing is much sharper and more athletic.

It's fun, it's exciting. The first time I saw the show ( a few years before I earned 'my' spot on the line), I got chills. And I had many of the preconceived notions that nancyjacky had, but was completely won over. It was like those old Busby Berkely numbers from the 30w/40s. There's nothing else like it.

One of my friends (another former Rockette) used to say it was the perfect show to take an ADD child to see because there is so much happening at any given moment.

And as for the animals- it's usually the sheep that crap first and the most prolifically.

I've seen this show many times in NYC and it never disappoints, nancy. We've even seen it in Atlanta a couple of times, but of course the best place to experience it is RCMH. We're seeing it in NY on Christmas night this year... I can't wait! Dancing girls, wooden soldiers, camels... it's great!
