Quick! A Special hotel in LA or Orange County?

Hi!
Just found out we have some free time tomorrow, and want to spend the night in a good hotel in LA, Hollywood or Orange county ! Am thinking of the Hollywood Renaissance, but is anything better. Don't want to spend more than $200....unfortunately!! Thanks,
tammy

You might want to look into booking a room at the new Standard Hotel in Downtown LA (some good rates while the hotel's still new). While pricey, the bar has a great atmosphere. And you might be able to get last minute tickets to The Tale of the Allergist's Wife at the Ahmanson.

sightseer is right - my wife and I stayed at the new Downtown Standard and loved it. Unlike any hotel you've ever stayed in - great design and BEAUTIFUL rooms.

The property used to be an oil company's headquarters and that's been woven into the design of public areas and rooms. The price was excellent for such a slick hotel.

I would have to disagree on The Standard. We just returned from a stay there. Basically it was a funky Motel 6. It was horible!! The prices were unbelievable for what you get. Think twice before staying there.

Hotel Sofitel down near the Beverly Center would be my pick.

Go to www.biddingfortravel.com and find out what Priceline offers in the 4-star category for your areas.

Stayed at the new Downtown LA Standard Hotel last weekend and would highly recommend it. My wife agreed that it was a nice renovation and loved the bar area (awesome views).

hi,
and thanks for all the good suggestions - finally went with the Westin South Coast Plaza, which turned out to be fine. Rooms are fairly stylish looking with comfortable beds. Mostly went w/ room price of $ 99.00... I'm sure the Standard or Sofitel would've been a bit nicer... We ate at a place called Memphis, kind of hip southern "cuisine", which was good, with excellent drinks.

I really have enjoyed the Memphis restaurant when I've been in town for surfing. I was able to get a room at the new Standard for $105, so it's not badly priced.
