LA hotel decision ???
My husband and I are planning to stay in LA for two nights. We are trying to decide between Le Montrose, Grafton on Sunset and Millenium Biltmore. I keep seeing totally + reviews on Le Montrose but it's pricey. Grafton, I can't find any reviews for and Millenium are 50/50 plus I know the location is the business district and will be dead at night.
If anyone can give advice between the 3 I'l appreciate it! Thanks!

This is soooo not the answer to your question, but I was researching for another poster's Oakland/SF question and found they are now only offering Long Beach....
I almost booked boatandbed.com for a SF vacation several years ago. Have no idea if you are interested in a very alternative situation, but it's a pretty cool concept.

Grafton or Biltmore depends on what you plan to do while in L.A, Biltmore is certainly not in the typical "tourist" areas.
Search Grafton in the box above and you'll find some info...including this old post:
Message: I stayed there about a year or so ago. The decor was very nice and hip. Comfy beds, great location, super Hollywood vibe. They were a little unorganized when we checked in and the staff seemed flustered but they hadn't been opened very long. The restaurant is real popular right now with the Hollywood crowd. I would stay there again.

The Biltmore's public spaces are quite lovely and retain an opulent 1930's feel. The rooms are fairly spacious and quite nice. It is a large hotel in the grand hotel tradition. It is as you say however downtown, if you are going to a concert at Disney Hall or if you have business downtown it is an ideal location. But it is not IMHO a good location for first time visitors or for those who are looking for night time activity for example.

The Biltmore is a grand old hotel indeed. BUT... not only is it in downtown LA, it is in downtown LA far from the most popular things to see and do in Los Angeles. There are things to see and do downtown (Disney Concert Hall), but generally not after dark.
The buzz I hear on the Grafton is really good, so it's probably fine. Frankly, based on location and cachet alone, I'd choose that one.

Can't comment on the other hotels but I stayed at the Biltmore recently and will not stay there again. Interesting public areas, I was totally unimpressed with the rooms I saw. There are too many fabulous hotels in LA to stay there again!

The Millennium Biltmore Hotel is only so-so in my book. Terrible food in the sports bar downstairs (even for simple bar food, it was sub-par). The rooms are TINY! I mean SMALL! Have tea in the Tea Room, but don't bother staying there, if you want a "great" experience. Weekends are full of weddings and high school functions in season (prom, winter formal, etc.) There are many better hotels in the Downtown area than the Biltmore, in my opinion.

Thanks everyone, I think we will go with the Grafton, it's affordable, in the middle of everything, and our friends in LA who could not suggest hotels under $200/night did however recommend staying on the Strip. I wonder how noisy it will be. One of the reasons I personally lean towards le montrose, just it's more $$
