Poland, Maine

I will be visiting my child at The Elan School in Poland, Maine next week. I have never been to the area before and will be flying there. Can anyone give me a heads up as to what to do in my spare time and points of interest. Any information about the school and surrounding area would be helpful as well. Thank you.

Not a whole bunch in Poland. You will not be far from Freeport,Me. There are outlets for shopping and Portland is close by which is a great small city.

Talk with the headmaster of the school as what to do in the area. There are numerous lakes in the area and the weather will be warm.

I went to school in the area and can tell you the area is very remote. You didn't visit the school before sending your child there?

You will most likely drive up rt. 26 to Poland, and 30-40 mins. is about right.

I visited the school with a friend who drove us up from New York so this is my first solo trip by plane. Do you have any recommendations for places to stay?

The in-town motel in Naples is clean and affordable. Naples is a town away from Poland.

Mollyocketts in Weat Paris is nice. I know of nothing in Poland, but it is worth a search. Also, Try to find something in Auburn.

If your child can join you for an overnight stay away from campus, you might want to backtrack to Freeport, giving her a change of scenery and a chance to enjoy shopping and several dining choices.

Range Pond State Park is near Poland and is a nice place to picnic or tan.

I'd allow more like an hour to get back to Portland Jetport, but at this small airport a 40 min checkin time is more than sufficient.

An overnite stay might be out of the question but I might be able to take him shopping at a local mall. Any suggestions for that?

There is a small mall in Auburn, but I would go to the Maine Mall, just off the turnpike and right near the jetport.

Thanks so much. One last question, any places you would recommend to eat near the school and any places you would recommend for working out nearby. Thanks again.

Maurices in South Paris is a great french restaurant. Not sure about workout places. Does Elan school have a place? maybe they will let parents use it.
