Questions about NYC restaurants
Hi,
I will be leaving for NY this Wednesday (10/26) and have a few questions about some of your restuarants.
This first question, I'm sure, is going to get various respones. In your opinion what is the best jewish deli?
About a year ago I watched a special on the travel channel about a restuarant called Mario's Pizza. What it said was there are many restuarants called Mario's pizza, but only one original. On the show they gave the location of the original, but I don't remember where. Can anyone help?
Thanks for your help

The best Jewish deli in NYC is the Second Avenue Deli on Second Avenue and 10th Street in the East Village. Katz's on Houston Street is also good. The first is kosher, the second is not but it will make no difference to you if you do not keep dietary laws. Both of these places are outrageous. The best pizza in New York is DiFara in Brooklyn. If you are a pizza fanatic it is worth the trip on the subway. (Do a seach on chowhound.com for details on this NYC landmark anad its owner, Mr. De Marco) Mario's is in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue, in an area called Little Italy of the Bronx. It is an old school Italian restaurant known for its pizza. It is a long train ride from midtown. You can get excellent pizza all over Manhattan; I am sure you will get many opinions as to the best in the borough.

Lombardi's (Spring Street) and Grimaldi's in Brooklyn are consistently rated the best pizza in NYC, and most aficionados agree.
I'd add Nick's to the list, on the Upper East Side.
(But just about all NY pizza is better than anywhere else.)
The Arthur Avenue area of the Bronx is a lot of fun to visit. It's a long subway ride (with a long walk afterwards) or a fairly short ride on Metro North (out of Grand Central). Both Mario's and Dominick's are amazing restaurants.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I will definitely be going to the deli on second ave. It sounds like there are a lot of great pizza places. I'll let you know what my favorite was when I return. Thanks for your help.
