Electric razor? Waist bag. I know the latter hasn't been used by many in eons, but I'll tell you, *I* use it and for some reason in Knoxville, Tennessee, the waist bag is a Carry On and they made me put it INTO my rolling carry on bag, just to walk through.

Also, re: film - used or unused. The guy at the camera place sold me a bag lined in led for up to 1600 speed film because he says that the CARRY ON XRay area is very powerful, though not as much as the check-in xray. Will they make me empty out the bag and put it through the carry on XRay anyway? Should I just leave it in the box? I hear so much about how far TSA is going in checking and I want to be able to display my items freely and quickly without holding others or myself up more than we have to. Thanks for any help in advance.

If the security guards are doing their job, they will open up the lead bag and inspect its contents. Take the film out of both the boxes and the canisters in advance. If you don't beforehand, I can assure that the guards will! And, of course, that'll mean a very long wait at security!
You can ask for a hand check of the film, thus avoiding having it go through the xray.

I fly United farily freequently and they allow 1 carry on and a personal item like a purse, day pack or brief case. Your waist bag would be considered a personal item, so if you also had a purse or something you would be over your limit. It's no problem to put a bag inside another bag though - I frequently put a day pack inside my suitcase if I will be doing some hiking or lots of walking on my trip.

As I was reading this, I remembered our trip in July to California. I was very careful to put my tweezers, scissors, fingernail file, etc. into my check in suitcase and not in my carry on so I wouldn't have to be stopped and searched. Imagine my surprise when I saw a woman carrying what appeared to be a six foot long wooden spear onto the plane! She went through security without a problem and here I was concerned about my itsy bitsy tweezers. Go figure.

My husband brings electric razor all the time in carry-on without problems. Depending on specifics of your travels, you might consider having "used" film developed while on your trip - somewhat larger volume of stuff to bring home, but no worries about x-rays.

We've carried film in a lead lined bag in our carry-on for years.

Since 9/11, I've been surprised that not one security guard (out of over a dozen flights) has ever asked to look in the lead-lined bag. I always assumed that the bag would look like a black void in the x-ray, and that we'd be asked to open it. Never happened.
