Question on Phoneix

My father and I are planning to go to Phoneix for four days in early November. Just wondering what I could do there. Someone told me that there is a train in Phoneix that will take you to Grand Canyon in four hours. Is it worth it? Anybody know the website or have info? I would rather not take the long drive, which I am guessing is four hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I used to live in PHX and have never heard of such a train.
The drive to Sedona is nice, and very doable, 2.5 hours.

There is no train going from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. You can check out The Grand Canyon Railroad (www.grandcanyonrailroad.com) which goes from Williams to the Canyon. Please keep in mind that Williams is 178 miles from Phoenix. Or you can sign up and take a tour from someone like Gray Line Tours (www.graylinearizona.com). They do a one day turnaround to the South Rim.

Other suggestions are to look at the Verde Canyon Railroad.

I suggest thta you just do a search under Phoenix and Arizona and you will get tons of information on what to do and see.

There are lots of other things to do in the Phoenix area. As someone said, a drive to Sedona would be nice. They have beautiful red rock formations there. Also, maybe a drive to Tuscon. Near Phx, I would go to Scottsdale, have dinner at the Hyatt Gainey Ranch outside to enjoy the beautiful view. If you're into hiking, hike Squaw Peak. November should be a really nice time of year temperature-wise. Enjoy!

Since you only have 4 days, the GC will be a stretch. Unless you are absolutely set on it, the above suggestions to go to Sedona are right on. Oak Creek Canyon is stunning, and gives you a good substitue for the GC.

I absolutely disagree that the Grand Canyon is a stretch. The most popular sightseeing trip out of Phoenix is a day trip to the Canyon. Yes, you don't get to see all that is there. But as one of the seven wonders of the world it is definately worth the trip. A day trip with a tour operator runs about 14 hours and gives you 3 to 4 hours at the canyon.

Pick a good hotel - Phoenix/Scottsdale have plenty. Do a search here for more info.

We are leaving this week for the Grand Canyon area. We have a reservation for the Verde Canyon RR which is near Sedona. After many searches comparing the Verde Canyon RR to the Grand Canyon RR, I think the Verde Canyon RR will be more scenic. Feel free to e-mail after September 30--will be happy to answer any questions.
